What XMOX Does with a YouTube URL

When you submit a YouTube link, XMOX:

  1. Downloads the audio track only — no video file is stored.
  2. Transcribes the audio using Gemini AI with speaker diarisation where possible.
  3. Makes the full transcript searchable and available for AI-powered Q&A.
The audio is processed and then discarded. Only the transcript and your analysis results are stored in your XMOX workspace.

Supported YouTube URL Formats

XMOX accepts all standard YouTube URL formats:

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID
  • https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID (short URL)
  • https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID (Shorts)
  • https://www.youtube.com/live/VIDEO_ID (live replay)
Timestamps appended to the URL (e.g. ?t=120) are ignored — the full video is always processed from the beginning.

Step-by-Step: Analysing a YouTube Video

Copy the YouTube video URL from your browser address bar or the YouTube share button.

In your XMOX workspace, click the + New Job button.

Select "YouTube URL" as the source type.

Paste the URL into the input field and click Analyze.

The job card will appear in your list with a Processing badge. You can leave the page — XMOX works in the background.

When status changes to Ready, open the job to read the transcript and start asking questions.

Processing Time

As a rough guide:

  • A 5-minute Short: typically ready in under 30 seconds.
  • A 30-minute interview or podcast: 1–3 minutes.
  • A 2-hour lecture or conference talk: 5–10 minutes.

YouTube analysis is particularly valuable for:

Limitations

  • Private videos cannot be accessed — they require authentication that XMOX does not have.
  • Age-restricted content is blocked by YouTube and cannot be downloaded.
  • Active live streams cannot be processed — wait for the stream to end and the replay to be available.
  • Very long videos (4+ hours) may time out. For these, consider downloading the audio manually and uploading as a file instead.
